A landmark building designed for a landmark company, the requirements for the look of Sasol’s new head office in Sandton were of the utmost importance. An extremely unique and captivating design at the forefront of modern style was executed with precision, resulting in a striking building that appears almost as if from the future. Each curved piece of glass a unique element like no other. The contours, taking the shape of an S, of the building allowed for a challenging façade design, allowing for innovative solutions to be discovered and implemented. Internal shading is controlled automatically using an ingenious solution that Pure often uses in buildings of this scale, allowing for a lowering of energy costs due to air-conditioning and a decrease in the need for electrical light. The building is also self-shading, driving down energy costs. It is as a result of these implementations, among others, that the building has received a 5 Star Green Star rating.

The creation of the entrance was determined to make a statement, and a statement indeed it has made. The use of neo-classical design, combining a collection of sleek and slender steel columns to frame the entrance of the building, gives it an elegant superiority over its surrounds. These columns seem to keep the roof afloat above a sleek white feature wall which adds to the awe-inspiring nature of the design. These columns also support an extensive louver system that upon closer inspection is intricately detailed to form the pattern of waves, which are used to shield the building from the sun. The result is an imposing yet surreal entrance that echoes with volume and size, framing a delicately detailed set of features on what is surely one of the finest buildings around.

Stats SA, a most crucial and important service provider for the South African Government, required a cutting-edge facility to be used as its head office. Keeping with the fact that their main function is statistical in nature, a radical design needed to realize. The result of which is a breathtakingly beautiful statistical curve formed by the roof of the structure. It is something to behold from any angle. What was once an economic constraint, was rather seen as a daring opportunity to create something magical. As such an entirely different material to the norm was used, namely the use of concealed fixed sheet-metal on the façade of the structure. This innovative design lead to the Steel Awards 2016 awarding Pure Consulting the “Global Roofing Solutions Metal Cladding Category Winner”. Used in conjunction with glass, the results obtained were magnificent, yielding a sophisticated building.

The design of the façade was built with the purpose of reducing air conditioning requirements as well as introducing more natural light into the building in order for it to obtain its 4 Star Green Star SA Design Rating. The African stone placed on the outside façade gives a natural, aesthetically pleasing feel to the building. The façade has a double skin which is climate responsive in that the blinds move in response to the amount of sunlight shining through. It also allows for the air pressure to equalise therefore allowing the building to use less energy when cooling is required.

Definitely a building to stand out from the crowd, the stonework façade presented a variety of challenges and opportunities to showcase a range of innovative solutions. This highly sought after address deserved an appearance to match, and as such a highly complicated combination of glass, stonework, and stainless steel was chosen for the buildings attire. An inspired use of moving stainless steel on the front lower portion of the façade supports the sensation that the structure is moving.

Notably understated, the sleek lines of the building declare professionalism. Upon closer inspection, the triple glazed windows that make up 65% of the exterior provide a striking finish that reveals an impressive steel substructure inside the building. A brand new building with so much innovation and technology deserved a one of a kind bridge to go with it. The pedestrian bridge itself spans 20 metres, linking existing elevated parking with the entrance to Multichoice City, therefore ensuring that the road remains mostly free of pedestrians making it a safer environment for all. It is made of structural steel and cladded in a material that allows it to stand out at night as it is lit up using lights, giving the impression that it is glow in the dark. This bridge however, looks just as beautiful during the day as at night, with contemporary materials used as cladding that accentuate the curved nature of this particular design.
